A New Home for Mick

From this to this - Mick is now in his new home

Just home from Micks Blessing

awhi-blessing-2It is so heart warming to watch Mick sit in his new home. The "thank yous" are many, and then we need to thank the people who supported the people who helped.

Wayne Seeker did a very humbling blessing which was not only very real but very honorable to Mick.

Mick spoke about his restored faith in humanity and his huge gratitute to all. There was lots of love and waiaita.

awhi-blessing-3We lit candles for every family/person who has contributed and ended up with 93 candles, they quickly warmed Micks home and it was so nice that all the people who awhi'ed Mick actually warmed his new house for him first.

Maia, Lee, Tui and Rua. Evan, Paul, Sheryl, Paul the painter, Graham, Gordon, Richard, Pam.  All the people who supported with money, discounts, spreading the word, coming to the working bee, internet work, Micks Family, RSA, Vietnam vets, ESP Victor 3 sending blankets and towels and prayers, your contribution, big or small has made a differnece to this mans life.

To Johny, Heike, Yoakim.  Thank you for your uncconditional love, your seed planting skills and your faith in the power of love.

awhi-blessing-4Let me tell you guys, because we did what we could, when we could, and trusted that it was all for the right reason, Mick will be warm and dry for winter.

And with Gods blessing, many winters to come.

Thank you each and everyone of you. And may your kindness be repaid a thousand times.
Katie.

Mick has helped us all at one time or another whether it was with the gifting of a stone, or coffees/dinners, or with the loan of packs and clothes for the trail, or with his openness to share his information and his time. Mick often does this with total disregard for his own needs - he just loves to help when the call goes out or when he sees the need. He gives without hesitation because he loves to. We now have a chance to repay some of Mick's generosity.

Mick has always lived simply, even sparsely, giving things away rather than keeping things for himself, however, now in his 70’s Mick needs a few more home comforts than he currently has to maintain his health and well being.

We have started a fund to raise enough money to build a warm, dry, home for Mick. The whare (little home) will be portable, It will be insulated with double glazed windows, insulated floor and walls and will have a covered porch so Mick has dry access to his studio. It will also have a shower and toilet so he can be self contained.

Money has been seeded to start buying materials for the project. Labour will be donated by friends in Greymouth. If you feel drawn to contribute to this project for Mick you can make a donation by using the Paypal donation button in the sidebar or sending a cheque to the address in the Donations Page.

Quote

“I expect to pass through this world but once,
Any good, therefore, that I can do,
Or any kindness that I can show any fellow creature,
Let me do it now, let me not defer it, nor neglect it,
For I shall not pass this way again.”

Carving for Auction

Miracles Happen

Mick has carved a stunning piece of pounamu which went up for auction on Trademe to help raise funds for this project. The auction closed at 9am Friday and it didn't sell. I was really disappointed, but decided not to relist it until after the weekend. But then, out of the blue, at 2pm someone rang and said they heard Mick had a carving for sale could they buy it for exactly the amount Mick wanted for it. And so the final bills get paid.
